We, the undersigned organizations/networks and individuals collectively express our serious concern on the planned eviction of an estimated 70,000 Maasai indigenous pastoralists and their more than 200,000 livestock in Loliondo, Tanzania

We, Indigenous Peoples, and the wider civil society, call on governments, the United Nations, and the international community to urgently heed the global and persistent call for an immediate, adequate and culturally-appropriate response to help Indigenous Peoples communities in the time of this COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has disproportionately affected Indigenous Peoples and is exacerbating the underlying structural inequalities and discrimination against them.

In response to the acts of violence occurring in Colombia, in the context of the mobilization of citizens exercising their right to protest the tax reform during the pandemic, Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) states the following:

On  April 12, 2021, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) issued a notice of eviction to around 73,000 indigenous pastoralist communities living in Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The NCAA considers them illegal immigrants. The NCAA’s baseless pronouncement that Indigenous Peoples and their pastoralist way of life are endangering the ecological balance of Ngorongoro Conservation Area was further disseminated by the mainstream media’s biased coverage of the issue.
