The right to education is a universal human right. Yet, many Indigenous Peoples have been deprived of access to quality, inclusive, and culturally respectful education.

On December 30, nine indigenous Tumandok were killed and 17 others were arrested in an operation conducted by the Philippine police and military in various Tumandok communities in Tapaz, Capiz, and Calinog, Iloilo. These happened from dawn when the community was asleep, to mid-morning.

The former Kaeng Krachan National Park (KKNP) Chief, Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, and three other park rangers are walking free from the murder of Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen, the indigenous Karen human rights activist. The state prosecutors dropped the charges against them on 23 January 2020.
